School Readiness

Prepare for the important transition to school and foster a love of learning by building confidence, independence, fine motor skills and social skills.

Begin Bright design fun and interactive programs to help little learners confidently transition to big school. They provide a balanced introduction to learning and early exposure to maths, literacy, and social skills by engaging with well-known children's books.

Children who may:

experience anxiety or lack confidence in new situations;

have not participated in formal early learning or have had it disrupted by COVID;

require support with social skills such as cooperating and sharing with their peers;

be neurodiverse and benefit from repetition of concepts;

need to practice school expectations such as listening and following instructions;

have been held back from school for an extra year and are keen for new challenges;

require additional support to retain new concepts; or

love learning and can't wait to start big school!

How can Space to Grow Learning Centre

school readiness classes benefit my child?

We offer a small group environment (limited to 6 children per class) to allow for individual attention

Children can practice communicating with new friends in a new environment

Developing some familiarity with what happens at school can help ease children's anxiety of the unknown

Children can receive assistance developing correct pencil grip.

Bad habits can form early and become difficult to correct, particularly in a busy school environment

Children who feel comfortable and confident in the classroom environment will generally be more receptive to the concepts being taught

Children develop confidence and independence attending classes without their parents or carers

Our school readiness classes are run in 10 week blocks aligning with school terms and provide a systematic introduction to phonics.

Phonics is the understanding that there is a relationship between the sounds we hear in words and the written letters that represent them. This understanding lays the foundation for learning to read.

We recommend children attend all four terms of the Foundation and School Readiness programs so that all single sounds are introduced.

Early Learning Program - Foundation (Ages 3 - 4)

This program provides learning foundations for children aged 3 to 4 years old and compliments learning at daycare or preschool. Play-based activities and hands-on group work help to develop social skills such as cooperation. Stories and singing assist with language development, and fine motor activities support the preparation for writing. Children are introduced to the shapes and sounds of the letters of the alphabet and explore numbers up to 10.

Class Duration: 1 hour

Cost: $30 per class

Early Learning Program - School Readiness (Ages 4 - 5)

This program is designed to support children who will begin school the following year. Play-based activities and hands-on group work help to develop social skills such as cooperation, and stories and singing assist with language development. Fine motor skills are developed to assist with pencil grip, letter formation and using scissors. Children become familiar with the classroom environment, allowing them to feel more confident about their transition to school.

Class Duration: 1.5 hours

Cost: $40 per class
