School Readiness

Prepare for the important transition to school and foster a love of learning by building confidence, independence, fine motor skills and social skills.

Starting school is a BIG milestone - for children and parents!

Our small-group classes are taught by an experienced primary school teacher who understands what children need to thrive in those first school years.

With a maximum of six children in each class, your child receives individual attention and support, allowing them to learn at their own pace and build confidence step by step.

Through fun, hands-on activities, they’ll develop the foundations for learning in a calm and encouraging environment.

Classes are designed for children aged 3½ to 5 years who will begin school within the next two years.

Watch one of our parents share why they chose Space to Grow for their child, and their experience with our school readiness program.

Why School Readiness Matters

Starting school today is very different from when most of us were students. Classrooms are busier, expectations are higher, and children are expected to be more independent from day one. A little extra preparation can make a big difference!

Our school readiness program helps children feel confident and capable as they take this next step. Our activities are designed to familiarise children with the structured environment, routines and expectation they will experience at school. setting them up for a smooth and happy start to school.

In our classes, your child will:

  • Build confidence and independence

  • Practise working in a group, following instructions and transitioning between tasks

  • Develop social and emotional skills

  • Strengthen fine motor and pre-writing skills

  • Explore early literacy and numeracy concepts, including phonemic awareness

  • Discover the joy of learning

Who can benefit from school readiness classes?

Children who may:

experience anxiety or lack confidence in new situations;

have not participated in formal early learning or have had it disrupted by COVID;

require support with social skills such as cooperating and sharing with their peers;

be neurodiverse and benefit from repetition of concepts;

need to practice school expectations such as listening and following instructions;

have been held back from school for an extra year and are keen for new challenges;

require additional support to retain new concepts; or

love learning and can't wait to start big school!

How can Space to Grow Learning Centre

school readiness classes benefit my child?

We offer a small group environment (limited to 6 children per class) to allow for individual attention

Children can practice communicating with new friends in a new environment

Developing some familiarity with what happens at school can help ease children's anxiety of the unknown

Children can receive assistance developing correct pencil grip.

Bad habits can form early and become difficult to correct, particularly in a busy school environment

Children who feel comfortable and confident in the classroom environment will generally be more receptive to the concepts being taught

Children develop confidence and independence attending classes without their parents or carers

Our school readiness classes are run in 10 week blocks aligning with school terms and provide a systematic introduction to phonics.

Phonics is the understanding that there is a relationship between the sounds we hear in words and the written letters that represent them. This understanding lays the foundation for learning to read.

We recommend children attend all four terms of the program so that all single sounds are introduced.

Class Duration: 1½ hours

Cost: $45 per class
